Elderly Falls can cause head injuries. These can be very serious, especially if the person is taking certain medicines (like blood thinners). An older person who falls and hits their head should see their doctor right away to make sure they don’t have a brain injury.
Elderly Falls are at a record high according to CDC’s December 12, 2019 report. Elderly people want to live at home for as long as possible. However, falls are the leading cause of an elderly person’s injury and death.
This most recent report of elderly falls is unprecedented.
According to CDC’s analysis in its December 12, 2019 report, 1 in 45 elderly people are sustaining Traumatic Brain Injuries. Even more surprising is within 90-days of an elderly person’s diagnosis of a mild Traumatic Brain (TBI), they end up back in the ER with a repeat TBI.
CDC acknowledges the greater awareness about sports traumatic brain injury and elderly falls occur in nursing homes but CDC has no other additional explanation for this unprecedented increase in elderly falls.
Any thoughts on what is casing the unprecedented rise in elderly falls resulting in traumatic brain injuries ?
